German-born Joseph Pilates dedicated his life to physical wellbeing. By the time he was 14, he had become familiar with every part of the human body and later dedicated himself to a broad variety of disciplines, After WWI, he took to devising an exercise system to rehabilitate the wounded using bed springs - developing what later became Contrology, the Pilates Method's original name! This was based on framing the body into a correct posture as a key element for successfully activating the core, correct breathing that oxygenates the muscles and cells, and elongating the limbs into positions that build strength from within.

I have had the privilege to meet, work out, and train with world-renown instructors such as Brett Howard, Inelia García, and the incomparable Kathy Ross-Nash, all who trained under Romana Kryzanowska, direct pupil of founder Joseph Pilates.

sequence

Each exercise is part of a sequence, and each transition into another position is an exercise itself. While working out to Pilates, the person must engage breathing, spine posture and activate the core, being completely mindful of their body and movements. From the head down to the toes, the most minuscule correction will affect the outcome of the exercise.

Pilates is fit for beginners, intermediate and even advanced athletes in all disciplines and sports. While it is not physical therapy nor meant to rehabilitate injuries, it is recommended for patients that have pre-existing conditions – prior medical supervision— allowing a full workout without affecting the injured area.

All shapes, sizes, and ages are welcome at Casa Pilates!
